Johannes Jaeger (1832–1908) was the photographer à la mode among the social and economic elite of the late 19th century. In addition to high society portraits, Jaeger worked with more experimental photography. He was also one of the first commercial photographers. In this exhibition, we showed examples of how he explored the possibilities of the photographic medium.

Lennart Nilsson LIFE cover, 1965

Portrait of an 18-week-old human fetus by Lennart Nilsson. This iconic photo crowned the cover of LIFE Magazine, on April 30, 1965. The issue featured his reportage ‘Drama of Life Before Birth’, which showed the human embryo’s development in the womb.

Staffan Hallström Ingens Hundar

Staffan Hallström first introduced these enigmatic compositions in his paintings under the title ‘Ingens hundar’ (Nobody’s Dogs) in the early 1950s, and they would follow him throughout his life. As one of Sweden’s most cherished painters of the 20th century, his stray dogs have become an icon in Swedish modern art.
