At the beginning of the 20th century, Henry B Goodwin became a pioneer in Swedish artistic photography. In 1920 he published the magnificent work “Vårt vackra Stockholm” (Our Beautiful Stockholm), where Swedish writers and artists contributed and he himself provided most of the illustrations. With this exhibition, Liljevalchs celebrates the 100th anniversary of the book.

Here, we exhibited our first edition copy of the book, which is numbered 1/200.

Lennart Nilsson LIFE cover, 1965

Portrait of an 18-week-old human fetus by Lennart Nilsson. This iconic photo crowned the cover of LIFE Magazine, on April 30, 1965. The issue featured his reportage ‘Drama of Life Before Birth’, which showed the human embryo’s development in the womb.

Château de Chambord Henry Fox Talbot, 1843

In 1843, pioneering photographer Henry Fox Talbot captured this image of Le Château de Chambord, one of France’s most iconic architectural marvels. Talbot’s photograph, taken using his innovative calotype process, stands as a testament to his groundbreaking contributions to the art of photography.

Staffan Hallström Ingens Hundar

Staffan Hallström first introduced these enigmatic compositions in his paintings under the title ‘Ingens hundar’ (Nobody’s Dogs) in the early 1950s, and they would follow him throughout his life. As one of Sweden’s most cherished painters of the 20th century, his stray dogs have become an icon in Swedish modern art.
